November 20, 2008 -- Once upon a time, a health insurer designated all its salespeople as independent contractors--a practice it said is typical in the insurance industry. But a group of 14 former sales managers, whose job title had been "sales leader," sued for overtime pay. They argued that they had been employees under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), not contractors.

OSHA Proposes Penalties Following Roof Collapse Hanger Manufacturer
November 18, 2008 -- OSHA has proposed $166,950 in penalties against a hanger manufacturer and its subcontractor. An OSHA inspection conducted after a roof collapse at the Alabama plant revealed 46 alleged safety and health violations.
